Progressive Metal bands

Progressive metal is metal that refuses to sit still: odd time signatures, long and ambitious songs, technical playing and ideas borrowed from jazz, classical music and progressive rock. Fates Warning, Queensrÿche and Dream Theater laid the groundwork, and bands like Opeth, Cynic and Mastodon took it into heavier and stranger places.
