Software engineer in Auckland, New Zealand. Founder of Metal TV.
I have a long-running passion for metal and for music videos, and I have a solo black metal project, Dawninsection.
Why I built Metal TV
Metal TV started as a private tool running on my own machine. I was frustrated with music discovery platforms that kept pushing the same popular bands, and I wanted a better way to find black metal, death metal, doom, and the other underground subgenres I actually listen to, without relying on algorithms that mostly reward what is already big.
So I built something to fix that for myself first. The goal was simple: make it easier to discover underground metal bands. In a way it is a small rebellion against recommendation systems that only promote what is already popular.
Over time it grew from that personal experiment into the channel you are watching now. It is also turning into a promotional platform for bands, another way for underground artists to reach listeners and put their music videos in front of people.
The project brings together the things I enjoy most: software engineering, infrastructure, music discovery, and creative problem solving. It is still evolving, and there is more to come.
