Folk, Pagan and Viking Metal bands

Folk metal brings traditional melodies and instruments, like fiddles, flutes, bagpipes and hurdy-gurdies, into heavy metal. Pagan and Viking metal draw on the same roots, with themes of old gods, history and nature. Bathory's Viking-era records laid the foundations, and bands such as Skyclad, Finntroll, Moonsorrow and Eluveitie took the sound in every direction, from rousing anthems to solemn epics.
