The artist fund
Metal TV shares its advertising revenue with the bands it plays. Every month we put the greater of $50 or half of our advertising revenue into an artist fund, and split it equally between every approved video from the licensed bands in rotation. You can see the running totals on the artist fund page.
How a video earns
- Airing is free. Any band can upload a video and be on the channel within minutes. That does not earn on its own.
- Earning is for licensed bands. Once a band claims its page (we verify a representative and switch it on), its videos become eligible.
- We review each video for the fund. Every eligible band's video is checked, one by one. An approved video holds one equal share of that month's fund. This is separate from being on the channel: a video can air without earning until it is approved.
How the split works
- The pot is divided equally across every approved video. If the fund is $50 and there are 20 approved videos, each earns $2.50 that month.
- A band with more approved videos earns more shares. Uploading another real, approved video increases what a band earns.
- There is no play count in the split, so viewers cannot change what a band earns. It comes down to approved videos, nothing else.
Getting paid
- We settle at the end of each month. A band's shares are added to its balance, shown on its band page.
- A band can withdraw its balance (bank transfer, from a $50 minimum) or spend it on promoting its own songs.
- Per band amounts are private. The fund page shows the monthly totals and the per video share so anyone can see the fund is real.
Claiming your band
If your band is already playing on Metal TV, find it in the band catalogue and contact us to claim it. We verify you, hand over the band page, and review your videos for the fund.
The artist fund is a voluntary programme we run in good faith. The formula above is our current policy and we may adjust it going forward with notice. The full terms are in the advertising terms.
