Get your videos from YouTube

Metal TV broadcasts from video files that bands and labels upload themselves. If your videos live on your YouTube channel, you do not need the original files from an old hard drive: YouTube lets creators download their own uploads, officially and in good quality.

Download your own video from YouTube Studio

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio (studio.youtube.com) with the account that uploaded the video.
  2. Open Content in the left menu.
  3. Find the video, press the three-dot menu on its row, and choose Download.
  4. YouTube saves an MP4 to your computer. That file is exactly what Metal TV wants.

This only works for videos on your own channel. If the video was uploaded by your label or a videographer, ask them for the file (or for the YouTube Studio download); the person uploading to Metal TV must be authorised to act for the rights holders either way, per the Upload Licence.

Then upload it to Metal TV

Upload from your band page (you need a free account that manages the band; see Add bands & videos). Files up to 2 GB and videos under 11 minutes are accepted, and everything is converted for broadcast automatically, so do not worry about formats. Your track shows a processing badge while it converts, then a human review, and then it joins the rotation.

Tips for the best broadcast quality

  • Upload the highest-quality file you have: the original export from your editor beats a re-download when you still have it.
  • 720p or better looks great on the channel; we broadcast at 720p.
  • Loudness is normalised automatically, so there is no need to pre-master the audio for TV.
