Formerly known as Fantom, the band was formed by guitarists Grzegorz Obroślak and Wojciech Sekuła, bassist Mariusz Ostęp, drummer Krzysztof "Wilm" and lead vocalist Marek "Caramba" Skowronek the 8th of March, 1986 at the Państwowego Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych w Lublinie (National School of Fine Arts in Lublin). They started as a cover band, playing Kreator, Destruction and Metallica songs. Obroślak started writing songs for the band during summer of the same year. Line-up changes followed with the incorporation of new drummer Jacek Wróblewski and vocalist Paweł Hoduń. The debut of Fantom on stage took place in Lubartów, on May 1st 1987. They shorly afterwards named the band after one of the first songs the band composed. They subsequently went to rehearse to the Sali w PLSP do Domu Kultury “Zgoda” in their home city – one of the sessions was recorded on tape and sent to the Jarocin festival organizers, without reply. In September, Hoduń left due to musical differences – Obroślak then combined guitar and vocal duties. In the meantime, the band went to rehearse at the Grota Club in Lublin. In 1988, they won with the material of a newly-recorded demo the “Miejska Scena Amatora” band contest. They planned to play the festival Drrrama in summer but in August, Sekuła was given his walking papers, changing their plans. In 1989, new guitarist Andrzej Teter was added. The band went to rehearse to the Miejskiego Domu Kultury (Municipal House of Culture) of Lublin. New manager Pawłem Frelikiem was also incorporated at the time. Their first official demo was recorded in February 1990, at the Municipal House of Culture. Obroślak got married shortly afterwards and left Lublin, while Wróblewski was recruited by the army, putting the band on hiatus. Fanthrash reunited a year later at the Municipal House of Culture, featuring new drummer Tomasz Pastusiak from Venator. They played as a trio for a short time, incorporating a second guitarist later, Marcin – working on new material. In 1993, due to financial difficulties the group split-up temporarily. The band resurrected in 2007, featuring Obroślak, Wróblewski and Ostęp from the original line-up. With the collaboration of drummer Mariusz Kilian from Convent, the project was reactivated. In autumn 2009, vocalist Pawł Hoduń and guitarist Wojciech Piłat from White Crow were incorporated. In spring 2010, the EP Trauma Despotic was released – drum tracks were originally played by Kilian but re-recorded again by two anonymous friends of the band. They signed in December with Rising Records. In July, Radosław Grygiel was introduced. On February 26th 2011, the band played their first reunion gig in Zamość. On May 15th they opened for Voivod at the Progresja Club in Warsaw. In June, the British edition of Metal Hammer included a sampler featuring material from Rising Records’ roster, which included Fanthrash’s song “Aggressor”. On July 25th, the debut album Duality Of Things was published. In spring 2013, a self-produced EP entitled Apocalypse Cyanide was released, followed by more formation changes: Hoduń was replaced by Kuba Chmielewski, while Rafał Cywiński took guitar duties from Piłat.
