Formed in February 1989 by Paul, Cahill, Birdy and a little later by Julie, on drums, the band produced a few rehearsal tapes (none of those exist today). In November 1989, Julie left and Shelly came in on drums. In December of that year John joined the band on bass which remained the line-up pretty much until the split. In February 1990, they produced a 4 song rehearsal tape-come demo on Shellys' crap 4 track recorder. It was never given a title but the band sent it out to friends and bands, and as a result of this Ali of HELLKRUSHER got them their second gig. (The first being a support slot at the Martec Club in South Shields on Wednesday 14th March 19990 with local band Vox Populi-who later became The Reign) in Hull supporting Hellkrusher and Anul Death (later Darkened) on Tuesday 20th March 1990. In June 1990 they scrimped together and got their first (and only) demo recorded at Baker Street studios in Jarrow. On the strength of this demo Mortal Remains were offered to record one side of a split LP by Dave Gedge of Nuclear Gore'zine and his band, Lord of Putrefaction. On the strength of the pre-release tapes of the LP interest was shown in the band from the Peaceville label, but before the release of the LP, Shelly left the band. It took a couple of months to find a replacement in the form of Curry (ex-Revenant, Host and Debauchery). Gigs followed and a shift in musical direction to a more hardcore sound, but Curry left to join Hellkrusher and the band eventually parted ways. The split LP was posthumously released.
