Ludaci

About

The band's name Ludaci is loosely translated Serbian for "insane mob", and was coined by Roddy Vicovac, the Serbian-born original Ludaci drummer and drummer of Ludaci precursor Sadistic Intent. Formed from the ashes of local Ohio thrash metal band Sadistic Intent (not to be confused with the California Death Metal band), of which some members (Vicovac, Ponomorenko, Elfers) combined with ex-members of Rude Awakening (Jermann, was briefly also in Sadistic Intent previously) and Organic Rage (Elfers) to form Ludaci. At the same time Doug Elfers brother John Porter (like Doug, also from both Sadistic Intent and Organic Rage) and Pete Ponomorenko (Sadistic Intent, Ludaci, Battery, Absolute Zero) formed Abasination. Ludaci played many shows during the few years they were active in the early 1990s, with other local acts such as Treachery, Abasination, Diabolicus, and national acts like Death, Pantera and Ludichrist. Doug Elfers died of an overdose on May 25th 2003 after 2 years of playing together with Ludaci guitarist Jocko Jermann and his brother Abasination/Sadistic Intent vocalist John Porter in the original form of JJ Grim. Jocko and Rob currently play together in Sunless Sky. Jocko played in JJ Grim with members of Blessed Sickness, Embalmer and Abasination until John Porters death in 2021. In 2010 Brandt, Jermann and Juchum began rehearsing for a Ludaci reunion, with Doug Elfers parts being reprised by his brother John Porter. This reunion was sadly cut short by Gregg Juchum's surprise diagnosis with stage 3 cancer, which he would go on to beat but it left his voice unusable for years after. Then the 2021 death or John Porter made a future reunion even less likely. In 2020 Brandt/Juchum's band Hell and Back re-recorded the Ludaci song "Sathanas" with new lyrics under the name "Feed" for their album "A Thousand Years". As of 2026 the newly reformed SSA is planning to record a new version of Ludaci's "The Virus". Of the 8 members between Sadistic Intent and the original Organic Rage, only 1 member from each band is still alive.
