It all started in November 1999 when a band named Nuntiem Desperatio was created by Mephisto (vocals) and Alexander (Guitar), along with Yngve (drums) and Agis (guitar). The idea was to perform a mix of folk music and black metal. After rehearsing for about a year, 5-6 songs were created and sounded like something between black metal and melodic death metal. The direction that the band took was not what they wanted, so they decided to slow down for a while to think things over. As a result, the band was separated. Mephisto, Alexander and Yngve, started looking for new members in order to start something different. Two musicians were found in July 2000: Abysmo (guitar, keyboards) and Lowfi (bass). The band's new name was The Darkest Hour. That was a new beginning, since the band started composing new songs. A month later, the band recorded it's first song "Blue Bright Eyes". After the recording was completed, Alexander left Greece and went to Bulgaria for medical studies. The guys quickly found a second guitarist Kostas in order to replace the gap and a keyboard player Aspasia, because Abysmo couldn't handle both guitar and keyboards on stage. The band took part in a few underground festivals and concerts and carried on with new songs. During the winter of 2000-2001, Kostas and Aspasia left the band for personal reasons and were replaced by Darkface,(guitar), Count T (keyboards). In May, after some arguments, the band lost Lowfi as a bass player. After the summer, the band asked Agis to become the bass player. He accepted and the band came up on stage in October 12. During January 2002, the band recorded their first MCD entitled "The Dagger EP". The band split up that same year, due to some inner conflicts, leaving the EP unreleased until 2017, when it was released, 15 years after the band's demise.
