About
"Belfegor" comes from the biblical name "Baal-Peor", who is the God of the Moabites. It was worshiped in the form of a phallus and his cult was associated with intemperance and orgies. With the birth of Jewish monotheism, as opposed to the polytheism of the neighboring peoples, Beelphagor became a demonic figure to be destroyed for the Israelites and was thus demonized. In Christian demonology he is also depicted as one of the seven princes of hell and he represents the deadly sin of sloth. Released a rehearsal tape in 1995 called "The Ancient Gods of Evil" (limited to very few copies) before changing their name to Nargoventor and shortly after to Azaghal.
